SIL Corporate PUA Assignments
Lorna Evans, 2021-08-16
The following table gives a list of Unicode private-use character assignments used within SIL International.
This information is provided for those who work in collaboration with SIL and who may wish to interchange language data. It does not constitute a recommendation for widespread adoption of PUA character assignments.
SIL corporation-wide PUA usage uses the codepoint range U+F100..U+F8FF. Individual SIL field entities might also make independent PUA character assignments in the range U+E000..U+EFFF. Corporate PUA assignments follow the following roadmap:
||modifier letters (e.g. superscripts)
||other non-Latin alphabetic characters

SIL Corporate PUA Character Assignments
In preparing fonts to facilitate corporate transition to Unicode, WSTech has attempted to create a font that will meet the character needs of users working with Latin or Cyrillic scripts throughout the corporation. In order to achieve this, it was necessary to identify private-use character needs related to these scripts from all entities. Documented here are the code-points for each of the Private Use Area (PUA) characters which have been assigned to the corporate area of the PUA. The Unicode 14.0 standard includes 225 characters that were previously allocated to codepoints in the Private Use Area by SIL’s PUA committee. A TECkit mapping file for converting from PUA codepoints to Unicode codepoints is provided here.
Character properties are listed in the UCD-SIL_PUA_[date].xls file which shall be distributed with this document. We have also included a worksheet (DeprecatedAssignments) to SIL's PUA UCD (Unicode Character Database) spreadsheet. This worksheet shows the history of every SIL PUA character: what PUA version it was added and what version, if any, it was deprecated. This will help implementers determine which PUA versions a specific keyboard, font, or mapping table supports.
The only change to version 14.0a is the addition of 14 characters that were added to Unicode 12 and 14.0. At this point our SIL fonts do not yet support the new codepoints.
Deprecated SIL Corporate PUA characters Lorna Evans, 2022-06-08
These PUA characters have been added to Unicode and are being deprecated. This page lists those PUA characters along with the appropriate Unicode codepoints. Please use the Unicode codepoint instead of the PUA codepoint.
The only change to version 11.0a is that we've add U+F26E LATIN CAPITAL LETTER RAMS HORN. At this point our SIL fonts do not yet support this character.
The only change to version 8.0a/9.0a is that we've officially deprecated U+F26C LATIN CAPITAL LETTER J WITH CROSSED-TAIL.
The only change to version 7.0a is that we've officially deprecated U+F225 LATIN SMALL LETTER C WITH PALATAL HOOK.
The only change to version 6.2a is that we've officially deprecated U+F247 LATIN SMALL LETTER AT and U+F248 LATIN CAPITAL LETTER AT.
The only change to version 6.1d is that we've added "Title Case Equivalent" codepoints for U+F262 LATIN SMALL LETTER K WITH DESCENDER and U+F264 LATIN SMALL LETTER Z WITH DESCENDER.
