Symbols in Phonetic Symbol Guide 2nd edn. in relation to Unicode 5.1

Peter Constable, 2009-01-21; 26857 reads

The Phonetic Symbol Guide (PSG), by Pullum and Ladusaw, is an important reference used by many linguists. Given the advent of Unicode, many may wonder how symbols listed in PSG are represented in Unicode, if they are even supported in Unicode.

The following file gives an analysis of most of the symbols in PSG. It is a text database with one record per row and fixed-width columns. The information provided for each symbol includes an identifier based on the location in PSG, the name of the symbol used in PSG, the representation in Unicode 5.1 (if any), and comments on the status of symbols (mainly for those not supported in Unicode 5.1).
