SIL Font Cache Extender

NRSI staff, 1999-06-30; 6941 reads

Note

This item is obsolete and we are no longer providing a download for it.

The SIL Font Cache Extender is an extension to the Macintosh OS which may be needed when using large GX fonts.

The SIL Font Cache Extender increases the size of the MacOS font cache to provide better reliability when using fonts that contain large amounts of font data, such as the SIL Greek and Hebrew fonts and many QuickDraw GX fonts.

Once you have downloaded the package, decode it with a utility such as Stuffit Expander. Double-click the resulting file (SIL Font Cache Extender.sea) to decompress it (if your utility has not already done the decompression automatically). Finally, drop the SIL Font Cache Extender extension onto the icon of your closed System Folder and reboot. Note that if you already have the FontFix extension the SIL Font Cache Extender is not necessary.

Without this extension certain fonts may display as Geneva or all blanks. The problem is worse on systems prior to MacOS 8, but can even occur with Mac OS 8 and 8.1.

This software is provided as freeware, with no warranties or guarantees inherent in its use.
