Related packages for Xe(La)TeX
Jonathan Kew, 2004-10-18; 20057 reads
XeTeX is an alternative to the standard TeX (or pdfTeX) typesetting engine, providing enhanced support for Unicode and Mac OS X fonts. Several users have kindly written supporting macro packages to simplify the use of XeTeX in conjunction with existing LaTeX documents and styles. This page aims to provide links to some widely useful packages. More information about these can be found in the archives of the
XeTeX mailing list.
Eventually, these packages may become part of a standard TeX/XeTeX distribution, but at the time of writing both they and the underlying XeTeX engine are considered experimental software, still under active development, and may be updated/changed at any time.
Bug reports, suggestions, and other feedback regarding these packages is invited on the XeTeX mailing list.
Enhanced LaTeX compatibility
- Updated: February 26, 2005 Ross Moore's "xunicode.sty" (formerly named "utf8accents.sty"): a package to handle traditional TeX input conventions for accents and other "special" (non-ASCII) characters when using Unicode fonts. This package allows legacy LaTeX documents to be typeset using native OS X fonts without converting the input text entirely to Unicode.

- Will Robertson's xeuler package: This is no longer required (as of XeTeX 0.9); just use the standard euler package. This was a package for XeLaTeX that enabled support for the Euler Script typeface, an alternative to the standard CM math fonts.
Specifying native Mac OS X fonts in XeLaTeX
Will Robertson's fontspec package This is a package for XeLaTeX that allows dynamic loading of Mac OS X fonts with all (most) accessible features. The new version supports: OpenType fonts;setting default options for every font; accessing generic features for text mapping, colour, and scale; and setting new font features.
Jon Breitenbucher's Adobe Type Classics support files Font description (.fd) and LaTeX style (.sty) files for many of the OpenType fonts in the Adobe Type Classics collection.
